Whitsun Festival 2016
Among the highlights of the Whitsun Festival 2016 is a performance of Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story, the famous musical with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim that is loosely based on the story of Romeo and Juliet. This production at the Felsenreitschule is played by the Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela, conducted by Gustavo Dudamel. Cecilia Bartoli performs the role of Maria. The Whitsun Festival is the precursor to the Salzburg Festival which takes place in the summer.

Manus Vs. Machina - Fashion
The spring exhibition at the Costume Institute looks at the influence of technology on fashion, and how the hand (manus) and the machine (machina) work together. The evolution of haute couture, industrialisation and mass production are all examined, and the designs on show date from a Worth gown from the 1880s to a 2015 Chanel suit. A workshop showing the creation of 3D-printed garments is also featured.
