Scottish singer-songwriter Paolo Nutini has scored the fastest-selling artist album of the year so far.
LISBON - Caustic Love, his third record, topped the charts with more than 100,000 sales after seven days on the shelves. He easily beat previous record-holder Sam Bailey, who sold 73,000 copies of The Power Of Love in one week in March, said the Official Charts Company. Nutini has enjoyed glowing reviews for his soul-inspired CD, including current single Scream (Funk My Life Up).
The Independent compared the 27-year-old's voice to Joe Cocker, while Music OMH said Caustic Love was his "most consistent and adventurous set of songs yet". It gives the Brit-nominated singer his second UK number one, following 2009's Sunny Side Up - which also climbed back into the Top 40 this week. While Nutini is the fastest-selling artist of the year to date, compilation album Now 87 is believed to have achieved higher first-week sales.
Paolo Nutini held off competition from teenage guitar band The Vamps, whose debut album Meet The Vamps was a new entry at number two.The top five was completed by Paloma Faith's A Perfect Contradiction in third; John Legend's Love In The Future at four and Kaiser Chiefs' Education, Education, Education And War, in fifth place.
